Overview

Austin advises entrepreneurs and businesses of all sizes on business and tax matters concerning entity formation, general operations, transactions both on the “buy side” and the “sell side” and tax credit finance (including new market tax credits and historic tax credits). Austin also represents clients on tax controversy matters with the Internal Revenue Service.    

Austin works with clients in a broad range of industries, including real estate, oil and gas, manufacturing and distribution, health care, retail and consumer products and technology.

Prior to joining Munsch Hardt, Austin worked in Ernst & Young’s Transaction Advisory Services group, as well as KPMG’s Mergers and Acquisitions Tax group.

Experience

  • Transactions 

    Assisted client in manufacturing industry on sell side to obtain tax efficient sale by obtaining a “step-up” in tax basis and deferring certain gains. 

  • 9100 Relief with IRS

    Obtained 9100 Relief from the IRS Chief Counsel’s Office in Washington to accept the client's previously misfiled returns as a corporation over approximately eight years

  • IRS Tax Controversy

    Assisted client in tax controversy with the IRS on the client’s characterization as a “dealer” in real estate for Federal income tax purposes and obtained a settlement for substantially
