Overview

Jay concentrates his practice on bankruptcy, reorganization and creditors’ rights, as well as corporate finance and commercial litigation. 

He has extensive experience representing various parties in bankruptcy and large business reorganizations including senior lenders, trustees, debtors, committees, receivers, trade creditors, purchasers, bond holders and insurers, in addition to serving as a Chapter 11 trustee and frequently representing parties in commercial litigation. He is the 2024 Lawyer of the Year named by The Best Lawyers in America® in the field of Bankruptcy Litigation.

Jay also frequently provides speeches, lectures and instruction on topics such as complex business bankruptcy and restructuring issues, commercial litigation and legal practice, financial management, improving public education and persuasive speaking and writing. He has served as Co-head Coach of The University of Texas School of Law National Bankruptcy Moot Court competition teams since 2006.

Jay formerly served as the Managing Shareholder for Munsch Hardt's Austin office from 2017 through 2024 and continues to serve on the Firm’s Board of Directors and Compensation Committee.

    Represented the Chapter 7 Trustee in several cases affiliated with a federally convicted real estate developer and successfully liquidated each such debtor’s real estate holdings
